Coursework :
Students will undertake three pieces of coursework, one in Biology, one in Chemistry and one in Physics. Each piece of coursework consists of an investigation, which the students plan, carry out and write up.
The coursework is worth 20% of the final GCSE mark.
Examinations :
As the course is modular, 30% of the GCSE is examined in Yr.10.
Another 50% (6 modules) are examined at the end of Yr.11
Students are entered for the examinations in one of two tiers:
| Â |
Teir
|
Grade
|
| Â |
Foundation
|
C to G
|
| Â |
Higher
|
A* to D
|
Which tier the students are entered for in Yr.11 depends on their modular results in Yr.10 and their coursework marks.
Equipment :
Students will be expected to bring a pen, pencil and ruler to lesson. They will be provided with a revision guide and a workbook, which contains exam type questions. Students will be expected to use these fully to help with revision for the exams.
Entry Level Certificate
This course is specifically designed for those students for whom a GCSE course may not be a realistic goal. This is a non-GCSE course, which consists of 39 short components, related to aspects of science representing important features in the life of students in the 21st Century. Each of these items has an end-of-item test, which can lead to a national recognised certificate in science. |
